TML Collective: Kaitlynne Grice of Grice Grove and Invision Events

Happy Monday everybody!!  Okay, so maybe Monday’s aren’t worthy of two exclamation points, but this morning I am very excited to share with you a new, hopefully monthly, series called the TML Collective.  I feel extremely lucky to know so many tenacious women who inspire me through their professional lives and creative pursuits that I have been wanting to share with you all for a long time!  The TML Collective is an interview series that will highlight a different woman every month who radiates innovation, positivity, and utter badassery!

I’m thrilled to introduce the first lady of the TML Collective spotlight, Kaitlynne Grice.  Seriously, this girl does it all!  Kaitlynne balances three jobs- not only is she the Sales Manager at Low Country Catering (their mini chicken and waffles are insane),  but she is also a Wedding and Event planner for Invision Events, and Co-Owner and Creative Director of Grice Grove, an online boutique focused on the art of giving.

Not only is Kaitlynne an all-around bad ass and #bossbabe, but she was also my wedding planner who I consider to be a very close friend!  Seriously the girl called me all the way from South Africa to calm me down regarding a (now unimportant) wedding freak out.

Between running her own company and balancing everyday craziness, Kaitlynne is here to share the challenges and rewards of working 9-5 while also running her own business.

You recently started your own company, Grice Grove.  What are the biggest challenges you face running your own business?

Grice Grove is my dream come true. It blends so many things that I love: retail, design, shopping, people, gifting, fun and events. The biggest business management challenges I face revolve around balance.  Balancing the business and my other jobs with life and loved ones, time management, and balancing business budgeting with all of the products I want to order right this second! I am also challenged by fear. Fear of failure, fear of not being creative enough, fear about whether people will love our products, fear of crashing the website! Most days I slap that fear in the face, but it does challenge me!

How do you find balance between running your own company while planning weddings?  Do you have any time management hacks?

I am type A people pleaser by nature, and have always had the skill set to run an efficient machine of a calendar. Upon launching Grice Grove, I hit a hard brick wall of reality when I took on the task of balancing family, friends, living, and multiple careers/jobs. I learned that yes, I probably can do it all, but I cannot do it all at once (I am still learning this today!).  All that said, my biggest time hack: learn when you need to say NO. Take the time to learn about your personal creative and efficiency process in order to maximize your project output, and to reduce overbooking and burnout. Finally, give yourself some grace!

What advice would you give to girls looking to find success in the wedding industry?

I have a Chris Pratt quote pinned to my cork board that I read every single day: “I had to hustle hard and go hungry. I had to eat sardines and figure out how to get gas money. And I never had a Plan B. I never stopped believing. EVER. Don’t give up. Apply constant pressure as long as it takes. It will break before you do. Go get it.” Hustle hard, never stop believing in yourself, keep a clear mind and heart, and go out into the world and create some positivity. I can’t stress enough about how important it is for women to support other women in work and in life.

What does a typical day in your shoes look like?

My days are typically insane, but I honestly love it! It also must be said that I physically and mentally would not make it without my amazing husband Justin, who picks up and runs with any and every ball I drop out of the air, and juggles the things I can’t begin to handle! I am NOT a morning person (though I have tried to become one!), but once my feet hit the ground around 6:15am, I don’t stop all day. I have a brutal but predictable Metro Atlanta commute to my 9-5 job, but I fill that time with entrepreneurial podcasts (I LOVE Entrepreneurs & Coffee), spotify playlists, and mental goal setting. From there, I send and receive an average of 45 emails a day, and I usually speak to at least 3 brides in some capacity. If I’m not out meeting brides or vendors, I usually work straight through lunch. I instagram quite a bit throughout the day looking for new product lines or inspiration! After the 9-5 hustle, I go home to dinner and the Grice Grove hustle, where we work on the website, instagram some more, pack orders, and dream! There is also a fair amount of Sauvignon Blanc, Netflix, and puppy snuggles to be had with our naughty shih-tzu-poodle, Dexter, and our 5 month old goldendoodle puppy, Penny!

What is your future vision for Grice Grove?

My vision for the future is to continue having fun, and hopefully brightening someone’s day, each and every day. My goals are to continue scaling and growing our business in order to create jobs and build a team, and becoming a go-to staple shop for all sorts of unique and eclectic goods and services for years to come. In terms of our social vision: we are passionate about providing our customers with amazing, unique, and eclectic products made by small and women owned businesses and artisans, and that will always be a major part of who we are. I  see us taking that passion, and growing Grice Grove to be a major supporter of a socially empowering non-profit. I also see a brick & mortar location in our future, and expanding to provide more than just gifts!

What are some of your favorite Grice Grove Products?

  1. Evil Queen Candles
  2. Sleepwear
  3. Our entire Wedding Collection

What advice would you give your younger self when you first began working?

Have an idea of who you want to be, define your own personal definition of success, work hard, and give it everything you have. When you’re tired REST, don’t quit! It is OK to say NO. Take time to stumble and find where and who you really want to be.
